What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the eyelids, enhancing the eye area's appearance. Aging can cause upper eyelids to droop, making one look tired, while the lower eyelids may develop bags and wrinkles. Blepharoplasty addresses these issues, retaining a natural look.

Procedure Duration

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty takes about 30 minutes. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty takes 30–45 minutes. Both are outpatient procedures.

Procedure Details

Performed under IV twilight anesthesia or local anesthetic, blepharoplasty can be done in a surgical center or office.

Candidate Suitability

Ideal candidates are those experiencing aging changes in the eyelid region, such as loss of skin elasticity and collagen. The procedure can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries for enhanced results.

Patient Expectations

Post-surgery, patients can expect a natural, rejuvenated appearance with reduced upper eyelid heaviness and lower eyelid bags, leading to an overall refreshed look.

Reasons for Blepharoplasty

Patients seek blepharoplasty to correct a tired or heavy eyelid appearance and improve peripheral vision affected by droopy upper eyelids.

Recovery Time

Recovery involves applying ice packs for the first 48 hours to minimize bruising and swelling. Avoiding blood thinners and strenuous activities is recommended. Most healing occurs within 7–10 days, with patients generally pleased with their results.
